The EU-Africa PerMed project is thrilled to announce that Rizwana Mia, Senior Programme Manager at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC), has been elected as a Vice-Chair of the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (ICPerMed).
This is a significant achievement for both Rizwana and the African research community, as SAMRC became the first African organisation to join ICPerMed in October 2022. Rizwana plays a key role as the South African lead in the EU-Africa PerMed Project Consortium, and her election highlights the growing recognition of Africa’s contributions to the global health innovation landscape.
With 16 years of experience, Rizwana has led the establishment of key programs such as the South African Precision Medicine Program, the SAMRC Genomics Centre, and the ambitious South African 110,000 Human Genome Program. Her dedication to advancing Personalised Medicine spans national, regional, and international levels, with a strong focus on fostering collaborations.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Rizwana Mia and the entire ICPerMed leadership team.
