The European Commission has granted the EU-Africa PerMed project a 6-month no cost extension to further advance in the integration of new African organization in the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine ICPerMed.

One of the main objectives of the EU-Africa PerMed project is to advance the implementation of Personalized Medicine (PM) globally and to foster joint PM initiatives between Europe and Africa while strengthening bilateral EU-AU collaboration in science, technology, and innovation (STI) in health. In this context, the integration of African organizations in ICPerMed was a major aim of the project and has been part of the work carried out by the project during the last 4 years. In this regard, we are now proud to share that 3 African organization are now full members of ICPerMed:
- The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC)
- The Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT)
- The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) of Tunisia
Moreover, Ms. Rizwana Mia (SAMRC) has been recently appointed as vice-chair of ICPerMed.
During this extra 6 month period, the EU-Africa PerMed team will engage with African organizations that are potential candidates to join ICPerMed, mainly policy makers and funding agencies, to discuss about the opportunities to join the consortium, the value that this international platform has to advance and support the research and implementation of Personalised Medicina across the world, and why African organizations have to be part of this endeavor.
